The Story of 17AD Coffee

17AD is a single-origin coffee grown by using Canopy AI platform developed by NeuBiom labs.

We aim at empowering small-scale coffee growers with advanced human-centric technology tools for better crop planning, monitoring and quality harvests.

The Story

Tale of Baba Budan

Legend has it that in 17th century AD, a wandering Sufi mystic named Baba Budan embarked on a sacred journey to Yemen, where he discovered a magical brew that filled him with vitality and focus — the coffee. Enchanted by its power, he dared to defy the strict export laws of the time, secretly tucking seven sacred beans into his robes. Upon his return to the misty hills of Chikmagalur, he planted these mystical seeds, giving rise to India’s coffee legacy.

The diversity

Indian Coffee

India’s coffee is a vibrant tapestry of flavors, with over 13 distinct geographical varieties grown across diverse climates and altitudes. From the mild, aromatic Arabicas of Coorg to the bold, earthy Robustas of Wayanad, each region offers a unique profile that reflects the rich cultural and environmental diversity of the country.

the people

Coffee growers

India is home to nearly half a million coffee growers, with the majority working on small-scale plantations that have been passed down through generations. These dedicated farmers cultivate coffee in regions across the country, preserving centuries-old traditions while facing the challenges of modern agriculture.

The Land

Wayanad

Wayanad, nestled in the Western Ghats of Kerala, is a region steeped in coffee heritage, known for its lush landscapes and ideal growing conditions. Here, the robusta coffee thrives, offering bold flavors and earthy undertones, making Wayanad one of the premier coffee-producing areas in India.

The variety

Robusta Coffee

Robusta coffee is known for its bold, full-bodied flavor, with a distinctive earthy and nutty profile that sets it apart from its milder Arabica counterpart. Rich in caffeine and resilient to harsh climates, robusta is prized for its intense taste and is a favorite in espresso blends worldwide.

The crisis

Climate Change

Unpredictable rainfall patterns now repeatedly disrupt the delicate balance required for coffee cultivation, leading to inconsistent flowering, fruiting, and harvest cycles. For small-scale growers, this uncertainty makes it challenging to plan effectively, often resulting in reduced yields and compromised quality, which directly impacts their livelihoods.

Our Innovation

Canopy AI

At NeuBiom Labs, we have built Canopy AI, a platform that uses knowledge graphs to represent the complexities of coffee cultivation while integrating real-time data and scientific insights. It provides growers with actionable recommendations throughout the crop cycle, enabling better planning, improved productivity, and consistent high-quality yields.

The value

17AD Coffee

17AD coffee is sourced from small-scale coffee plantations where each batch is meticulously grown and monitored using the Canopy AI platform for precision and sustainability. By leveraging cutting-edge technology, 17AD ensures traceability, quality, and responsible production, delivering an exceptional coffee experience.

The method

Fly-picked microlot coffee

Fly-picking is a selective harvesting technique where only the ripest coffee cherries are hand-picked, ensuring the highest quality for microlot coffee. This meticulous process results in a more refined and flavorful cup, highlighting the unique characteristics of each coffee batch.

The connect

Giving back to the grower

17AD coffee empowers consumers to scan a QR code on the package, unlocking the full bean-to-cup story, including details about the plantation, land, and the grower behind their coffee. This transparent traceability allows consumers to send thanks, offer rewards, and even reserve the next batch directly from the same grower, fostering a deeper connection between them and the source of their coffee.
